Goo Goo Gah

For as long as I have known Jes, he has always wanted a motorcycle. It was only a matter of time that our boy, who loves all things his Daddy does, would develop a love for them too. After 7 years of begging, I finally relented and let Jes buy one. However, that is not the end of it. Apparently you have to take a class before you can take the test for the license, so Jes did that this weekend. He came home even more ready than before to ride. Caleb loves going into the garage to see and sit on the motorcycle (he calls it a goo goo gah since he can't say the word yet), so I thought I would finally get some pictures of the two of them

So, even though I relented and let Jes get one, Caleb already knows that I need to be on my way to heaven before he will ever get one of these!

There is a picture of Jes on his Dad's motorcycle when he was about Caleb's age, so I thought I would continue the tradition!

They Call Him the Streak

Have you guys heard this song (see title)? I had honestly never heard it until Jes and I met some 7 years ago. He thinks the lyrics are hilarious. What I can remember of it goes like this:
Oh, they call him the streak, Fastest thing on two feet and then something about shoing off his physique.
We are teaching Caleb to drink from a cup with no lid. After a pretty eventful dinner full of success and some uh-ohs, Caleb ended up in just his diaper and running shoes. Jes thought it was the funniest thing he had seen, so I promised I would post the pictures.

Not exactly what I would call streaking, but he is cute nonetheless!

Better Late Than Never

We spent our weekend putting together a swing set for Caleb. We have been planning to get Caleb this swing set for his birthday for a year. As far as we knew, one could buy it in the stores and we started looking as soon as they put out all the equipment, however it was all gone before we got there. There must be some secret we don't know! Anyway, we ended up ordering it via the Internet where it was back ordered and arrived Friday, right before the storms blew in!
So Jes, really, spent most of the weekend putting this together. I thought he was going to pass out when he opened the two surprisingly small boxes and saw all the many small pieces they contained. I did a lot of holding things in place, matching up holes and carrying nuts, bolts, washers, wratchets, and anything else that I could do and still stay out of the way.

Here's the finished product! Pretty neat, huh? Jes attached the slide way before it was even half way done, so Caleb spent around 4 hours going up the ladders and down the slide.

By the time I got this picture, all Caleb wanted to do was swing because it didn't involve climbing. The poor kid was wiped out, but he loves his birthday present!

I thought this picture was funny. This is Jes climbing back over the fence after he kicked a ball over and went to get it. Our hero! :)

Escape Artist

Here is Caleb's new trick. He is attempting to get out of his Pack and Play, however he can't quite clear the top. It seems as if he's out grown the Pack and Play... What do you think?

Pre-Easter Celebration-Mathis Style!

Easter is such a special time in our home. Not only is it the holiday commemorating Jesus rising from the dead, but it has always been and always will be my favorite holiday and time of the year. To make it even more special, it is the holiday that Caleb was born right before, specifically the night before. For me, it just can't get any more special than that!
Growing up, my mom and dad always made a big deal out of Easter. We never did the whole Easter Bunny thing, but we did have FABULOUS Easter baskets, a tradition I intend on continuing with Caleb and any future children!

Here's Caleb's swag. Not only did he get an Easter basket from us, but also from MawMaw and PawPaw (my parents). Before we left for church, we let Caleb dig in!

Caleb was so excited about all the things he got and instantly started pulling things out and playing with them. He loved everything, especially the Veggie Tales movie from his grandparents. It was hard to pry that one out of his hands. We actually had to carry it around with us all day long!

Caleb got lots of fun toys and some candy too...

Thanks MawMaw and Pawpaw and Happy Easter everyone!

Bob the Builder, and Thomas Too

A week ago today, Sunday, a friend of mine, Jennifer, and I packed up our boys and went to see Thomas the Train and Bob the Builder in Grapevine. We had a great time and the boys both got to see their favorites! Jennifer's son Dallas, loves Thomas, and everyone knows about Caleb's undisputed love for Bob.

Here's Caleb and I first arriving at the festival! It was outdoors and a little warm, but there was a nice breeze and plenty of shade to hide under!

Part of our trip was to ride Thomas the Train. It ended up being a real, honest to goodness train.

The boys had a great time and us moms got to rest too!

Many of you don't know about my sincere dislike for trains and all things train-related. This picture is proof that I actually rode on the train too! Oh the things that I do for my Caleb!

Caleb was so excited to see Bob the Builder, from far away... I think he was a little scared of Bob up close! :)

Our Trip to the Zoo

Ok, so it only took 8 days of trying, but here are the long awaited pictures from our trip to the Dallas zoo!

We got up bright and early and drove down to the DART rail station closest to our house and hopped on. Caleb loved riding the train! We'll do this again!

Here are Jes and Caleb ready to go in and see all the animals!

Caleb LOVES monkeys of all types. He walks around saying, " ooo, ahahah, ooo, ahahah", eg the sounds a monkey would make. He was initially scared of these statues, but Daddy saved the day and sat in the picture too!

Caleb and Daddy looking at the Meerkats (there's one on top of that tall mound)

This is really strange, but Caleb gets the biggest kick out of sticking his head in these things. We have multiple pictures of him like this from Halloween and such. He's an otter here!

The other animal that Caleb is itrigued with are lions. He loves to growl like the lions and he was super excited to see one! He growled at the lion for a little while. We had to drag him away so others could get close!

Daddy and Caleb with the elephants. He didn't really know what to think of these!

The giraffes were also very interesting to Caleb. His eyes got really wide when they stuck out their tongues to grab leaves from the trees!

The Dallas zoo has a great Children's area. Here are Daddy and Caleb feeding the fish!

Caleb got to pet a bunny,

and a guinea pig!

He even got to ride a horse!

We went into the JC Penney House and Caleb worked on a few puzzles while Daddy and Mommy took a rest!

There is also a little lagoon in the Children's area. Caleb LOVED splashing around in here, even though the water was quite cold. Daddy followed close behind!

We then got back on the train and rode back to our car where Caleb crashed before we even made it to the street! All in all, it was a great trip and we can't wait to go back!
